Concerts “On the Green” to continue through fall

This summer, Madison continued a grand tradition that has only improved with time. On the second and fourth Thursdays of June and July, Madison Main Street, with the James Madison Inn and Conference Center, hosted a Summer Concert Series "On the Green." These concerts featured every type of music - from jazz to bluegrass to zydeco.

An incredibly family-oriented affair, the concerts entertained up to 250 children, teenagers and adults for several hours every other week.

“Not only was it wonderful to see the community come out and support these concerts all summer, but it was so fun to see how much the children enjoyed themselves,” Main Street Director Ann Huff said.

When the concert series was over, however, the citizens of Morgan County weren’t satisfied and begged to continue it into the fall. The city had budgeted only to run the concerts through June and July, but, fortunately, several businesses and individuals from the community stepped up to make continuing the series possible, including Amelia’s; The Medicine Shoppe; Rutledge Inn and Bed &Breakfast; Buckhead Forestry, LLC; Carbon Neutral Holdings, LLC; and the Buck Family.

So, on Thursday, August 21, Madison’s Jamie Hood and the Madison All Stars will be featured as the Summer Concert Series "On the Green" is, for the first time, continued into the fall. This concert will be free and open to the public, and will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the same location as the others, behind the James Madison Inn and Conference Center.

With enough funding, this will not be the last concert of the year, and the series will continue into September. For more information and updates as to whether the series will continue, watch for ads in the Morgan County Citizen, or contact Ann Huff at (706) 342-1251.
