Story M. “Junior” Giles
Story M. “Junior” Giles, 78, died Thursday, May 22, 2008. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24 at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fort Valley.
Born in Macon County, Georgia to the late Story Monroe Giles Sr. and the late Nannie Hudson Giles. He was the former owner and operator of Giles Garage.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty S. Giles of Fort Valley; their children, Dennis H. Giles of Fort Valley, Susan G. Phillips (Keith) of Madison, Gail G. Ellard (George) of Perry and Michael A, Giles (Dr. Cindy Giles) of Fort Valley, a grandson, Ryan G. Phillips of Madison and a brother, J. B. Giles of Soperton.
Rooks Funeral Home in Fort Valley was in charge of arrangements.
Inez Hawkins Branan
Inez Hawkins Branan, 108, of DeLand, Florida died Sunday, May 25, 2008. She was a native of Morgan County born March 29, 1900 to Edga and Sara Harper Hawkins. She was married to Hubert V. Branan who preceded her in death. They lived most of their lives in Lithia Springs. Mrs. Branan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lithia Springs and the Springs Lizards camping club. She was a volunteer for the hospital auxiliary and was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was owner of Branan’s Pharmacy.
Mrs. Branan is survived by a granddaughter, Lynne Arnold of DeLand, Florida, a grandson, Raymond Mitchell and four great-grandchildren. A daughter, Evangeline B. Mitchell, preceded her in death.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31 at the Rutledge Cemetery.

Tap Mathew Carey
Tap Mathew Carey, 87, of Bostwick died Thursday, May 29, 2008. He was born November 26, 1920 to William Curtis and Bessie Hanson Carey in Morgan County. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Air Force. He was married to the late Frances Marion Carey. Mr. Carey was an attorney and an accountant. He worked for the State of Georgia for many years and in many capacities. He served as director of the State Mental Hospital in Milledgeville and later as Associate Director of the State Department of Audits. After retirement he enjoyed managing his farm operation. Mr. Carey was a member of the Morgan County Cattleman’s Association and the American International Charolais Association. He was also a member of Bostwick Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, Scott Carey and Patti of Bostwick and a sister Nancy Carey Peters; two grandchildren, Katie Carey and Chris Carey. His wife, Frances Marion Carey and two brothers, Bill and James Carey preceded him in death.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bostwick Methodist Church.
Funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31 at Bostwick Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Jordan officiating. Interment was at Bostwick Cemetery.

James Croll Knox Jr.
James Croll Knox Jr., 86, of Buckhead, died May 29, 2008. He was born February 2, 1922 to Frances Elizabeth Jones Knox and James Croll Knox Sr. in Atlanta. He served in the United States Navy. He married Polly Wilson on May 22, 1944. He retired from Eastern Airlines as a pilot.
Mr. Knox is survived by his wife Polly W. Knox and their children, James David Knox (Charlotte), Joseph Daniel Knox and John Richard Knox (Lynne); six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on May 30 at 5 p.m. at the Buckhead Cemetery.

Annie Ruth Elder Bone
Annie Elder Bone, 88, of Madison died Friday, May 30, 2008 at her home. She was born November 20, 1919 in Oconee County to James Frank and Clyde Henton Elder. After marrying Raymond Bone the couple moved to Madison in 1940. Mrs. Bone worked at Wellington Puritan Mills as a quality control manager. She was very active at the First United Methodist Church in Madison. She was a “Prime Timer” and also active at the Morgan County Senior Center. While she was able, Mrs. Bone would drive others to the Senior Center. She also served as a mentor at the schools and adored the children she was able to help there. She was also involved with Project Linus, providing handmade blankets to children who experienced traumatic events.
She is survived by her loving children, Rev. Bob Bone (Barbara), Virginia Ann Lord (C.P.), Jimmy Bone (Evelyn), Melvin Bone (Linda), Charles Bone (Sandra), Alice Moore (Andy) and Joe Bone; daughter-in-law, Nancy Bone; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bone; a son Wilbur Bone and two daughters, Carol Bone and Wonnie Bone Thrasher; two sisters, Ellen Harrison and Sue Hunsinger.
Funeral service was held Monday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Madison. Interment was at the Bostwick Cemetery. Dr. Kirk Bozeman and Rev. Bob Bone officiated. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.

Sharon Tompson
Sharon Tompson, 67, died May 30, 2008 in Ft. Pierce, Florida. She was born in Villa Ridge, Illinois and moved to Ft. Pierce 45 years ago coming from Madison.
She retired from Lawnwood Regional Medical Center as supervisor of the Accounts Payable Department after 31 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith and her family and her friends were her life.
She is survived by her mother Maxine Steele of Ft. Pierce, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Dan Pennington of Madison; a sister, Carla McLaughlin of Ft. Pierce, Florida; grandchildren, Daniel and Dustin Pennington, both of Madison; nephew, Greg Tompson of Ft. Pierce, Florida, Florida; niece, Lisa Sands of Rockwood, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laurie Young and her father Jess Steele.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pennington United Methodist Church.
Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Madison City Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Wolfe officiating.

Julian Morris Savelle
Services for Julian Morris Savelle, 84, of Chula will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5 at Ochlockness Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. The Rev. David Smith and Rev. Dennis Norman will officiate and interment will be in Ochlocknee City Cemetery.
Mr. Savelle died June 2, 2008 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton. He was born August 10, 1923 in Terrell County, the son of the late Jesse Aberfoil Savelle and Elizabeth Rozella Culpepper Savelle. On April 7, 1956 he married Elizabeth Wilkes Savelle, who survives.
He was a World War II Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion, a farmer and retired from the United States Postal Service in Ochlocknee after 28 years of civil service.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Amy Savelle of Watkinsville; daughter and son-in-law, Deena and David Hood of Chula; grandchildren, Heather, Anna and Patrick Savelle of Watkinsville, Tyler, Katelyn and Kelsey Hood of Chula; a brother, Jesse Savelle of Boise, Id. and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church before the service. Guests may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com.
