Jackie Jenkins
    Jackie Jenkins, 63, of Madison died Friday, March 14, 2008. He was born  January 27, 1945 in Morgan County to Ruby Florida Stephens and Porter Cleveland Jenkins.
    He is survived by his wife, Frances Brown Peek of Madison; daughter Monica Jenkins of Elberton; sons, Anthony Jenkins and Jack Jenkins both from Eatonton and Zackary Jenkins of Madison; sister Carolyn Quillan of Lake City, Florida; brothers, Cleveland Jenkins of Rutledge, Jimmy Jenkins of Norwood, Danny Jenkins of Monroe and David Jenkins of Madison and three grandchildren.
    Graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Don Malcom officiating.
    Meadows Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
Joshua Scott Williams
    Joshua Scott Williams of Monticello died Saturday, March 15, 2008 in Jasper County. He was born May 26, 1987 in Rockdale County; he was the son of Jeffrey Scott Williams and Pamela Underwood Coop. He was of the Baptist faith, attended schools in Newton and Rockdale counties and was a foreman with D & C Fire Protection. He enjoyed and had a passion for four-wheelers and motorcycles and loved his dogs.
    He was a very good father and was known for being very well mannered and was loved by his family and friends.
    He is survived by his mother Pamela Coop of Covington; father Jeffrey Scott Williams of Eatonton; daughter Hannah Marie Williams of Monticello; brother Cole Coop of Covington; maternal grandparents Tommy and Patsy Underwood of Jackson; paternal grandmother Beverly Bailey of Rutledge; paternal grandfather Marvin Williams of Newborn; girl friend Kaila Robinson of Monticello; several aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous other family and friends.
    Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Lane Sanders officiating. Interment was in the Granade Family Cemetery, Smyrna Road, Conyers.

June Elizabeth Messer Schoolcraft
    June Elizabeth Messer Schoolcraft, 65, of Greshamville died March 11, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Junior Messer and Alma Jenkins Messer. She was born March 28, 1942 in Waynesville, N.C.
    Mrs. Schoolcraft lived briefly in Social Circle before moving to Greshamville almost 35 years ago. She was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her yard. Her husband, Oris Rocky Schoolcraft, preceded her in death.
    She is survived by her daughter, Gigi Rhoades and Steve of Madison, four grandsons, Scott Rhoades and Heather, Tyler Rhoades and Misty, Jessie Rhoades and Jonathan Rhoades; two great-grandchildren, Emma Rhoades and Jordan Rhoades; seven brothers and sisters, Gladys Keller (deceased), Larry Messer (deceased), Lowell Messer, Odessa Powers, Nancy Bryan, Ferris Messer and Oral Messer.
    Funeral service was Thursday, March 20, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Interment was at Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Melvin Keith Rider
    Melvin Keith Rider, 71 of Madison died March 11, 2008. He was born May 2, 1936 in Quick, West Virginia to Carl and Ruby Rider.
    He married Mildred Chambers in 1955. They made their home in Madison. He was in electrical marketing and sales for many years and was employed by Charleston Electrical and retired from McJunkins Corporation of Charleston. He was a member of the Methodist faith. He was also active in the Elks Lodge 202, Charleston Electrical League and M.A.N.A.
    He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred Chambers Rider and their daughter, Karen Lynne Rider and son Bobby Rider; three grandchildren, Bradley Keith Rider, Logan Keith Rider and Austin Stewart Rider; one sister, Jeannie Fletcher of Charleston and one brother Eddie Rider of Daytona.
    A.    E. Carter Funeral Home had charge of local arrangements with visitation Friday evening, March 13 from 5 to 7 p.m.
    Visitation for Mr. Rider was held at Haffers Funeral Home in Elkview, West Virginia on Sunday, March 16 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Mildred Ward Hilsman
    Mildred Ward Hilsman, 86, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008. She was born August 5, 1921 in Banks County to the late Glen and Lona Gowder Ward. She moved to Morgan County as a child and spent the rest of her life here. She was the wife of James “Nip” Hilsman who preceded her in death.
    Mrs. Hilsman was a nurse’s aid and is remembered as a “pink lady” at Morgan Memorial Hospital. She worked with her husband on the family dairy farm for many years. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family and she especially love making brownies for her grandchildren. Mrs. Hilsman also enjoyed gardening, raising vegetables and flowers.
    Mrs. Hilsman is survived by her two children Dan Hilsman and Doris Hilsman Clark; her grandchildren Kathy Clark Daniel, Dave Clark, Bart Hilsman, Jason Hilsman and Heather Hilsman Register; 13 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jeremy, David, Dylan, Ashley, Megan, Christy, Caleb, Todd, Cassidy, Jenna, Christopher and Chance; three great-great-grandchildren, three brothers, Ernest Ward, Rufus Ward, and Otis Ward and a sister, Elizabeth Turner. Her great-grandson Brent Clark preceded her in death.
    The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Hilsman was held Sunday, March 16 at 4 p.m. at A. E. Carter Chapel with interment at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

Nellie Otelia
Atkinson Hollis Lee
    Nellie Otelia Atkinson Hollis Lee, 91, of Douglasville died Sunday, March 9, 2008. She was born February 6, 1917 in Morgan County. She was the oldest of nine children.
    She is survived by a son Roy Thomas Hollis Jr. (Gail) of Edgewood, NM, and three daughters, Mellie Irene Hollis Boykin of Douglasville, Otelia Brooks (Allen) of Edmund, Oklahoma, Elaine Houze (Jack) of Marietta; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; a brother Marcellus Atkinson of Hampton; and two sisters, Gertrude Overall of Ladson, SC and Emoly Wilbanks of Rutledge and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her son, Emmett Atkinson Hollis, a granddaughter Durenda Marie Brooks and great-granddaughter Miranda Faith Kunda.
    At 91 years she was still reading the newspaper daily and doing jigsaw puzzles and crosswords. She also kept a number of African violets blooming to enjoy.
    Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Brownwood Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Charles Strong
    Charles Strong, 70, of Eatonton died Friday, March 14, 2008 at his home. Son of the late Comer Strong and Amanda Reecer Strong, he was born January 21, 1938 in Moss, Tenn. He attended high school in Westfield and Noblesville, Indiana. At the age of 18 he went to work for Ford Motor Company as a pipe fitter retiring in 1989 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #115 in Westfield, Indiana, and served in the National Guard Reserves. He moved to Eatonton in 2000 where he would be closer to his children and their families.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavoureene Jo Lutz Strong, and a brother, Adam Strong. He is survived by two daughters, Debby Stephens of Greensboro and Lori Cherry and husband Brad of Rutledge; a son, Allen Strong and wife Beth of Ringgold; three brothers, Gib Strong and Tom Strong both of Noblesville, Indiana, and Bo Strong and wife Betty of Murry, Ky.; six grandchildren, Eric Strong, Emi Strong, Nichole Stephens Wilkerson, Jenny Jenkins, Tabitha Cherry and Bronson Cherry; and a number of other relatives and friends.   
    Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at McCommons Chapel in Greensboro.
    The family requests that memorials be made to Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, GA 30025 or American Cancer Society, 1684 Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
