Lady Pups pick up first win

The Lady Pups soccer team bounced back in a big way last Wednesday, scoring their first three goals of the season en route to a 3-1 win over Oglethorpe to even up their record to 1-1, following a season opening loss to a tough Malcom Bridge team to open the season.
Judy Manzo scored two goals and Griffin Gardner added another for the team after they had struggled scoring just the week before.
"The whole team did a wonderful job working together...and communicating on the field," said Lady Pup Head Coach Katie Greenway. "We were applying skills we worked on throughout the week at practice."
Greenway said she was particularly pleased by first-year goalie Shakarah Boswell's performance in the contest. Boswell made several saves on goal including a key save on a direct kick due to a hand ball.
"Coach Emily and I are very proud of the girls," Greenway said of the win. "[It] boosted our morale and gave us little things to work on."
After getting things back on the right track last Wednesday, last Friday's game with St. Joseph was cancelled due to rain. Greenway said the team is looking into rescheduling the game for later this season.
The team hits the field next on March 19 when they visit Athens Academy. Their next home game will be on March 21 when they welcome nearby Oconee Middle School.
