Diamond Dogs top Oconee in exhibition

The Diamond Dogs showed signs of promise in their preseason exhibition game on Friday, setting the tone with a 7-4 win over the Oconee County Warriors.
Six different pitchers saw time on the mound in the victory, giving up a total of just three earned runs in the scrimmage.
"I was thrilled with the overall pitching effort," said Bulldog Head Coach Brandon Patch. "You have to be pleased anytime six different pitchers take the hill and they allow a combined three earned runs. They did a great job of hitting their spots."
Olin Watkins, Parker Cline, Kyle Burden, Clay Duvall, Caleb Duvall and Dylan Jaskowiak all got a chance to show off their stuff in the effort.
Getting different pitchers game experience should serve the team well as they were set to visit Aquinas for a game on Tuesday. The team has its home opener Saturday when they host Clarke Central.
The team also had a good game offensively in Friday's exhibition.
"Offensively, we had some really nice at bats where we were patient at the plate and we hit well in situations that resulted in runs," Patch said. "I really liked how we moved runners throughout the game, playing station to station."
Clay Duvall went 2 for 3 against Oconee, getting 2 RBI, Tyler Ward was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Josh Blackburn went 1 for 1 and walked twice, scoring three runs for the Dogs, Bobby Patrick had a double and an RBI, J.D. Hawkins had a single, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI.
Also getting hits for the Dogs in the game were Jon Jones and Eddy Diaz.
