The middle school boys and girls tennis season is underway and this past week saw them in some competitive match-ups.
The girls edged out Madison County at home last Tuesday. They won all their singles matches, Ansley Jones won 8-4 at number one singles, Peyton Nunn won 8-4 at number 2 and Sarah Jones won 8-1 at number three.
Madison County took both doubles matches from the Lady Pups, although it took them a tie breaker to finish off Maggie Brown and Gabrielle Wyatt at number one doubles. Amelia Collier and Alex Malone picked up a win in an exhibition doubles match.
On the boys side of things, although the team dropped their singles match-ups, Drew McHugh and Chan Courchaine, along with Garrett Gardner and Corey Hopson, all won their doubles matches over Madison County. Matt Vill picked up a 6-1 win in exhibition singles for the Pups.
The teams were coming off a split against Elbert County on February 11 in their season openers. The girls won 5-1 while the boys lost 4-1 despite Nathan Neuhart winning his number one singles match 8-1.
The Morgan County teams were set for a rematch last week with Elbert, but the matches were rescheduled and played earlier this week.
