The Morgan County girls soccer team got off to a busy start last week, winning their region opener but losing a pair of non-region games.
The team opened their season with a 3-2 loss to a tough Jefferson team.
"The girls played hard and played some really pretty soccer," said Lady Dogs Head Coach Jessica Ward. "I am extremely proud of them."
Elizabeth Newton and Mandi Smith had goals for Morgan County in the opening defeat.
The team rebounded later in the week when they demolished region opponent Putnam 9-1 on the road to earn a region mark of 1-0.
Smith had an impressive game with four goals, Taran Schultz and Elizabeth Newton each had two goals and Malin Dartnell added one in the win.
The team rounded out their week with another one-point loss, this time at the hands of the Franklin County Lady Lions.
"It was not a good night of soccer for us," Ward said. "[We looked] lethargic. We had no passing and very little teamwork and communication."
Their only goal in the loss came from a Smith penalty kick.
The team hosted Athens Academy Tuesday.
