The Lady Dogs got two big wins last week giving the momentum heading into this week's tournament. They handled Oglethorpe 55-35 Friday night at home and won a close one at Washington-Wilkes 46-45.
"We played pretty well in both of those games," said Lady Dogs Head Coach Kathy Hubbard. She said she hoped the team could build on the wins with a good tournament showing.
In Friday's win, the game was never really that close. The Lady Dogs moved ahead of the Lady Patriots 21-14 by the end of the first quarter and were up 32- 20 at the half. The score was 42-28 going into the final quarter where Morgan County was able to put the game away with some good free throw shooting.
The team had two big scorers in the game, Kiasa Tiller with 23 and Ieshia Williams with 20. Sharda Massey had six points and Alexis Cathey added five in the last regular season girls game at the old Morgan County High School gym.
Earlier that week the team was able to escape Washington, edging out the Lady Tigers 46-45 in what turned out to be a preview of Monday's first round tournament win for the Lady Dogs.
The team was up 26-23 at the half and only 34-32 going into the final quarter, and the Lady Dogs would have to hold on for a one point win.
Kiasa Tiller led the way with 21 points. Ieshia Williams had nine. Sharda Massey and Drewcilla Williams eached added six in the win.
