Was the groundhog right? Looks like an early spring
Hello to all my readers on this beautiful, sunshine-y day, but so cold. I think the groundhog might have been right; we may have an early spring.
We had a good service on Sunday, both services, as Butch brought his message from 2nd Corinthians 12:1-10.
This was the fourth letter written by Paul as he set up the church of Corinth. God gave Paul many visions and revelations. God humbled Paul and he was helped by God. God gets glory and honor from our suffering. What a mighty Lord we serve.
We had several out sick and we especially want to remember those unable to worship with us. O.L. Jordan is having a struggle with the shingles; Mary Ruth Jackson has been in the hospital but was able to go home on Sunday; the Walker family needs our prayers; the Comans family; Charles Johnson; Roger Bottoms is back in Alabama in the hospital; so many, many. Darlene Price was not with us– I need to check on her. Special requests for my close cousins: Carolyn Gaylor, Mark Gaylor and Martha Clack. Prayer Warriors, please pray for our country, our churches, our citizens. We need to turn this country around and pray it will be a praying, God-fearing country again.
There is a Ladies Meeting on Monday night to discuss our upcoming Spring Festival on March 23. I know that it will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., with activities for the kids and an egg hunt. Will fill you in next week.
I told you a little about the Reach Outlet in Covington next to the Krystal last week. What inspiring people are running this little thrift store. They are running a special throughout the month of March: you can purchase clothes and shoes– adults, 10 pieces for $10, and children, 10 pieces for $5. Go by and check them out.
And while I'm "plugging," I'd like to put in a word for a hair dresser here in our area. Over at 903 Harmony Road you will find Rachel's Family Salon. She is the owner, and she and daughter, Debra, will be happy for you to visit. I find her to be reasonable with her prices and is an excellent hair dresser. She also does men's hair cuts and they are $12. Try her if you are looking for someone in the area. Her number is 706-485-4323 and walk-ins are welcome.
James and I checked out the Wild West Music Hall in Monroe on Saturday night. Again the Sonrise Trio thrilled our hearts. We will be having them in July for our homecoming.
Viola Samples from down at Lone Oak called, said they were having a big singing on March 17 with Liberty Singers as special guests; starts at 6:30 p.m.
Our own first gospel sing of the year at Sugar Creek will be April 13. We are anxious to hear the Apostles of Bluegrass at 6 p.m. Mark your calendar as you will not want to miss any of these. Clarke Kesler and Sandy Stephens will be at the Wild West Hall on March 30 at 7 p.m. I love to praise the Lord in song.
Again I'll mention that our Church Yard Sale will be May 3 and 4. We will have space for you to set up a table if you so desire for $10. Barbecue and drinks will be available. This is one of our largest fundraisers, as our church needs so many repair jobs. If you have anything to donate, we will gladly accept; just contact any lady in our church. They will be sure that Alice and I get the word. Thank you to all those that have already donated. With such an early start, I look for this one to be the best ever.
Don't forget to set your clocks ahead on Saturday night before you go to bed, or you can wait until 2 a.m. to do this. I can't believe this time has rolled around again.
James and I attended the visitation and funeral of our dear Aunt Frances this week. I think I mentioned last week that she was the last living of the siblings of my mother and I started thinking, that DOES make me the older generation now. Those great times with our large family are no more but there will be a great homecoming for us again. Again love and sympathy is sent to our entire family, especially to Doris, Jane, Martha and Donnis.
Try to join with us on Wednesday as we are studying Christian Ethics following a meal at 6:30 p.m. Come, eat with us and give a small donation to help with the food. God is there.
Happy anniversary blessings to Kelly and Ronnie Lawson on March 6 and to Shannon and Davis Busbee on the 14.
Jim Carey, a silly comedian, said this and I thought it was good: "I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it's not the answer."
So until next week, may the Lord bless you real good.
