After match-ups against Greene County and George Walton Academy, the Morgan County Middle School girls’ and boys’ soccer teams have compiled 2-0-0 and 1-0-1 records to begin the 2013 season.
The first games of the year, which were played against Greene County’s Carson Middle School, took place Tuesday, Feb. 19.
The Morgan County girls beat Carson easily with a score of 6-0. MacKenzie Barrett and Morgan Walker made up two-thirds of the Dogs’ offensive power with each scoring two goals during the game. Cat Usry and Annie Akins also had one goal apiece.
Although the MCMS boys beat Carson 4-2, they allowed the Tigers to put up a little bit of a fight.  Goals by Grant Friddell, Carlos Hernandez-Martinez, Garner Drummond and Yusuf Baig were enough to secure Morgan County’s victory.
Last Thursday, the MCMS teams had their first home games, which they played against George Walton Academy.
Again the girls sailed to an easy victory, beating George Walton 4-1.
Morgan Walker scored her third goal of the still fresh season; Cat Usry and Annie Akins each earned their second so far. The fourth and final score in the game for the girls came from Briseida Marban.
The boys tied their game against George Walton Academy 1-1 thanks to a goal by Andrew Watkins.
Wednesday, the MCMS teams traveled to Putnam County to face-off against the Eagles beginning at 4:30.
This weekend, the Bullpups will be in Jackson for their first Saturday game of the season. These Saturday games will begin at 10 a.m., as will all Saturday games this season.
The next home game for MCMS soccer, which will take place on Mar. 7, will be the Bullpups’ rematch against the Carson Tigers.
