Centennial News • Rev. Donnie Compton
“God cares for you, and so do we!”
It is such a blessing serving as the associate pastor of Centennial Baptist Church! I remember when I came to Centennial in 1986; we were running about 65 people in Sunday school, my children were babies and my hair was black. It was very apparent to me then, as it is today, that the people of Centennial had a burden to see the communities around them come to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Today my children are all grown up and my hair is grey and sharing the Gospel is still the mission of Centennial Baptist Church.
Centennial was founded in 1876 under a brush arbor. Land was given by Jeff Mosley for a church, cemetery and schoolhouse. I praise God for the men and women who saw the need for this ministry 137 years ago.
Today Centennial is a very strong witness for the Gospel, supporting mission and evangelism efforts in our community, state, nation and around the world through the Southern Baptist Convention’s Cooperative Program and other local mission opportunities. Come and join us as we continue to lift high the cross of Calvary and proclaim the goodness of our God and Savior. Service times are Sunday school at 9:15 a.m., morning worship at 10:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6:30 p.m.
We have a great men’s event called the “Sportsman’s Night Out” coming up on Feb. 21 at the Heritage Park in Madison. Professional Bass Fisherman Jimmy Houston will be speaking to men as we enjoy a barbecue pork dinner. Tickets for this event can be purchased online at www.centennialbaptist.org/sportsmannightout or at the church after any service at the welcome center.
Centennial Baptist Church is located at 5321 Brownwood Rd., Rutledge, GA 30663. Contact the church at www.centennialbaptist.org or 706-557-2120.
