2,000 books donated to Morgan County Library

By Stephanie Johns
Staff Writer

Richard and Dana Kibbey donated 2,000 books from their Washington business, Retro Cinema & Books, a book, theater, and wine bar business, to the Morgan County Library.
When asked why they donated the books, Dana replied that they live in Morgan County and wanted to do something for the community.
“Books are a passion,” she said. “We could’ve sold them but decided to try to help the local library.”
Included in the donation are books of fiction and non-fiction, from Hollywood biographies to regional books, from car books to children’s books.
“It’s a mixture of everything,” she said.
Morgan County Library Manager Miriam Baker said they were happy to receive the books.
“We were very pleased that the Kibbeys thought of us for this donation,” she said.
She added that they are planning a special book sale towards the end of the month. Details will be forthcoming.
“We’re going through the donation to see if there are items that need to be added to our collection that we don’t have,” she said. “It will take us a couple of weeks to do that.”
All proceeds from the book sale will go towards buying new materials for the library, she said.
The Kibbeys opened their business in March 2007. They moved to Madison in 2008 and have commuted to Washington since then.
They are relocating the theater part of their business to Madison and opening a grill, Ricky D’s.
“You just love the small, charming town,” Dana said. “I love this place.”
They hope to open both the theatre and grill this spring.
