The MCHS swim team, the Swim Dogs, competed in a meet held at UGA’s Ramsey Center on Dec. 22. The team placed sixth overall out of 12 teams with the girl's team placing fifth and the boy's placing sixth.
Coach Steve DeLaigle was pleased with the performance of the team at the recent meet, since some of the members of the team couldn’t make it because of the Christmas break.
“This is better than we expected since we were missing several swimmers to the holiday vacation,” said Coach DeLaigle.
Mary Claire Cardwell continued to be one of the highlights of the meet for Morgan County.
Cardwell placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of one minute and two seconds, improving her personal record by nearly two seconds. Cardwell also placed third in the 50-yard freestyle and scored the most points for the team during the meet.
Other individual winners were Grace Smith, who placed fifth in the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, and Edward Robuck, who placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle.
The women’s relay team, consisting of Cardwell, Megan Hume, Grace Smith, and Caroline Smith placed fifth in the 200-yard medley relay and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Swim Dogs’ next meet, a competition between Morgan County and Jefferson City, will take place at the Morgan County Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 12. Come out to see the Swim Dogs in action at home next week in their last home meet of the year.
