Rec Dept.’s Marlins compete in Douglas County competitions

Nov. 15, the Morgan County Marlins, the recreation department’s swim team, competed in the Douglas County Stingrays’ Candy Cane Sprint and Winter Distance Palooza.
The Marlins placed eleventh overall as a team with 554.5 points. Some of the top swimmers for Morgan County were Smith Cathey, Colton Patterson, and Justyn Patterson.
Colton Patterson, who raced in the boys 7-8 division, placed second in the 25-yard freestyle race, second in the 25-yard breaststroke, and seventh in the 25-yard butterfly stroke.
In the girls 9-10 division, Smith Cathey placed first in the 50-yard freestyle and 50-yard backstroke, second in the 25-yard breaststroke, and third in the 50-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle.
Justyn Patterson took third place in the 200-yard individual medley and fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke for the boys 15 & Over division.
Members of the team also completed the Mixed 10 & Under 100-yard Medley relay in second place.
The next event scheduled for the Marlins is the 2013 Winter Kickoff, which will take place at Georgia Tech on Jan. 19-20.
