MCHS controls Commerce, Madison County in Duals

By Nick Nunn
Staff Writer

Last Wednesday, the Morgan County High School Wrestling team took on Commerce and Madison County in back-to-back duals, managing to outscore each during the course of the evening.
Wrestling Coach John Robbins lauded the team’s ability to come out on top against two seasoned teams.
“Great job tonight by our guys to sweep the competition,” began Robbins.
“Commerce always finished in the top 2 or 3 in single A, and Madison is also a quality program.”
Although the team has been performing well this season – and despite having key wrestlers come in late because of the football postseason and injuries – Coach Robbins said that there is still room for improvement.
“The guys are getting better each match, but have yet to peak, which you always hope happens at the state tournament.”
Several of Morgan County’s wrestlers got two wins during the night, including Nathan Lundy, Jacob McAlister, Jack Leclair, Austin Ross, Stewart Spence, Bailey Ross, and Preston Langley.
Coach Robbins is excited about the team’s next event, which will be the War Eagle Classic at the Woodward Academy.
”Woodward is hands down the favorite coming out of the AAA Western Sectional.  We will also see some old rivals like Lovett, Marist, and Hillcrest (out of Greenville SC), so our kids will have to really push themselves.”
