“Dodge Cancer” fundraiser brings in about $250

By Nick Nunn
Staff Writer

On Dec. 19, the MCMS basketball program held a benefit for the Sharon Maddox Reading Fund called “Dodge Cancer.” From 2:15 to 3:45, over 30 students and teachers competed in dodgeball games to raise money for the purpose of purchasing books to be donated to MCMS’ media center. Approximately $200-250 was raised.
After the event, Mona Howard read a statement describing Sharon Maddox, who died last October after a 10-year fight against cancer. Maddox was an avid supporter of literacy, who “refused to give up” during her illness and continued to “serve the children at Morgan County Middle.” The books donated in Maddox’ honor will be placed in a special section in the media center that has been set aside for the fund.
