Trees auctioned this Friday

For the third year in a row the Morgan County Senior Center will hold a drawing for two chances to take home a ceramic Christmas tree decorated with snow and lights – one variegated and one with red lights.
Tickets are $1 each and may be purchased at the center. The drawing will be held around noon on Dec. 14.
Those wanting a sure thing may choose to purchase one of the other ceramic trees available. Prices range from $25 to $80.
Money raised from both the drawing and the crafts sales will benefit the center and its visitors.
“We serve people who don’t qualify because it’s the right thing to do,” said Benita Watkins, director of the center. To date they have brought in about $1,500.
Morgan County seniors spent the past six months crafting items to sell during the holidays.
Watkins credited Assistant Director Diane Malcom as the “mastermind” who guides the seniors in their accomplishments.
Those items range from angels and ornaments to home décor, from knitted or crocheted hats and scarves to Georgia Bulldog items. They also have several blankets and quilts as well as candle holders.
“These are all special items that are handmade in Morgan County,” she said. “Most of this stuff they won’t be able to find anywhere else.”
