MaCayla Cook, a ninth grader at Morgan County High School (MCHS), raised $450 to benefit the MCHS Band at her Friday night Perk Avenue concert.
Donations collected will go into the band’s general fund and be used to purchase things not provided by the Board of Education, such as bringing in master class teachers or buying music and instruments.
MCHS Band Director Jeffrey Rowser said they had between 75 and 100 people in attendance for the two-and-a-half hour long concert.
Cook played a variety of older and more current selections.
“She’s very, very talented,” he said. “She’s really exceptional in vocal skills.”
Roswer said Cook organized the event on her own.
“She’s very self-driven,” he said. “She worked out the agreement with Perk Avenue and it was received very well by all.”
