Holiday dinner discussion leads to stabbing

Staff Reports

A Thanksgiving dinner turned violent last week after a woman stabbed another woman with a table knife.
According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, a woman claimed that her adopted sister stabbed her in her left hand after a Thanksgiving discussion on religion and narcotics turned into a fight.
The complainant said she told her sister to stop talking during the meal but the sister continued, reports state, and called the complainant a derogatory name. The second time the complainant told the woman to leave the Dixie Highway, Rutledge, residence, the sister and the complainant engaged in a physical fight that included hair being pulled. Reports state that the sister also threw food around the room in front of several children and other family members. The complainant said she was then stabbed in the hand with a table knife. She also alleged that the sister threw a fork at her.
The sister was removed from the residence and taken to Covington. Authorities have issued warrants for the arrest of Shaundra Hughes, 18, on charges of aggravated assault and cruelty towards children.
