It has only been a little longer than a week since the Morgan County High School Swim Dogs’ 2012-2013 season began, but they have already been very busy.
Friday night, before the football game, the Swim Dogs held a barbecue fundraiser in the MCHS cafeteria, which raised around $700, according to Coach Steve DeLaigle.
Then, on Saturday, the Swim Dogs competed in their second meet of the season. The meet was held at the Ramsey Center at UGA.
“The meet was outstanding,” said DeLaigle after Saturday’s meet.
The Swim Dogs competed at this event last year, but, since then, the team has made a noticeable difference in their performances.
“We placed fifth out of 14 teams [this year],” said DeLaigle. “That is eight places up from last year.”
The individual performances from the members of the team were impressive as well.
“Nearly every swimmer lowered their times from last Monday.”
Mary Claire Cardwell, freshman member of the Swim Dogs, qualified for the state tournament in backstroke. According to DeLaigle, Cardwell finished the race nearly three seconds faster than the time she needed in order to qualify.
The Swim Dogs’ next scheduled event will be another event at the Ramsey Center at UGA on December 22.
