The Episcopal Charities Foundation Board approved a $2,600 grant for Panda Packs during its September meeting.
Kelly Freyer with Episcopal Church of the Advent’s Outreach Task Force said they provide packs to about 60 children each week.
They spend roughly under $3 per pack so the grant will supply about half of their budget or enough money to provide food for one semester.
Panda Packs provides food over the weekend to children at Morgan County Primary School who participate in the National School Lunch Program or who demonstrate a need for the food.
Freyer said they pack bags each Friday morning with the help of special needs students from Morgan County middle and high schools.
“We appreciate all of our volunteers and the support we’ve had from the community,” Freyer said.
Ginny Heckel, Chair of Episcopal Charities Foundation, e-mailed Abbott that, “We hope this grant will assist you in continuing the wonderful work you do on behalf of so many.”
Checks will be distributed by Nov. 30.
Those interested in volunteering may contact the church at (706) 342-4787.
