Emerson Keith Malcom
Keith Malcom, 91 of Bostwick, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012. He was born in Good Hope on March 11, 1921.He was the son of George Washington Malcom and Aubye Crawford Malcom. He was retired from the United States Coast Guard. After his military service Mr. Malcom worked as the Morgan County Tax Assessor. He was widowed by his wife Jessie Ruth Waters Malcom. He was a member of Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as deacon chair and Sunday school superintendant. He was an avid “coon hunter.” He raised registered Blue Tick hounds and sold them all over the world. He was instrumental in starting Full Cry, a coon-hunting magazine. He taught himself the trade of taxidermy and was a master gardener. He enjoyed building bird houses and playing his guitar and banjo. He will be remembered as having lived a very full life.
Mr. Malcom is survived by his wife Dorothy Gregory Malcom; seven children Brenda Walker, Beverly Sheridan, Bonita Malcom, Barbara Malcom, Bonnie Ferrell, Beth Woodruff and Greg Malcom; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; his siblings Billy Malcom, Doyle Malcom and Aubye Jean Gordon. He was preceded in death by his wife Jessie Ruth and siblings George W. Malcom, Berandt Malcom, Sybil Simmerson, Curtis Dillard and Howard Malcom.
The family received friends on Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at A. E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at Gibbs Memorial Baptist Church. Interment followed at the Braswell Cemetery in Good Hope.
