Looking for a local race for a local cause?
The Friends of Madison Firefighters will host the seventh annual Firefighters' Fall 5K and 10.2K on Saturday, Oct. 13.
All proceeds from the event will go to the William B. Cochran, Jr. Vocational Scholarship fund and be used to promote fire safety locally.
Cochran served 30 years with the Madison Fire Department. "He consistently gave of himself in our community through his efforts with the fire department and other organizations," according to a press release from the Friends of Madison Firefighters. "Through this scholarship, we honor his legacy of spirit and devotion."
The Friends anticipate the participation of about 250 runners. The event kicks off with the 5K at 7:30 a.m. and the 10.2K at 8:30 a.m. Those participating are to meet at Madison First United Methodist Church, 160 W. Washington Street in Madison.
Fees for runners range from $20 until Oct. 3 and $25 from Oct. 3 to race day. Register at active.com.
Community sponsors are being enlisted for this event, and there are three levels of sponsorship: Gold Sponsors–$250–get the name and logo of their business on the back of the race T-shirt, two free race entries, recognition as a Gold Sponsor in the newspaper and title sponsor recognition on the scoreboard; Silver Sponsors–$175–get the name and logo of their business on the back of the race T-shirt, one free race entries, recognition as a Silver Sponsor in the newspaper and title sponsor recognition on the scoreboard; Bronze Sponsors–$100–get the name and logo of their business on the back of the race T-shirt.
