The Morgan County Lady Pups split two games last week with a 10-4 loss to area rival Youth Middle School and a three-inning, 16-0 defeat of Greene County.

In the Youth game, the opposition jumped to a 3-0 lead after three innings but Morgan County battled back, closing the gap to 4-2 in the fourth. Youth exploded for a five-run fifth to stretch the lead to 9-3 and tacked on another run in the sixth.

The Pups' Alisha Ellis and Maddie Kinnett combined for seven innings, giving up five walks.
Head Coach Sarah Titshaw said the team was stymied at the plate. "We hit the bard hard against a good pitcher but couldn't find any holes. We were hitting right at somebody and Youth is a good defensive team."

Morgan managed seven base runners for the game, bringing four home."If we can get girls on, we have a good base running team and we're able to score, but whey have to get there first," she said.
For the game Sarah Couch reached base twice including a triple. Couch was 2-3 at the plate on the day. Ellis and Kinnett were 1-3 for the day at the plate.

Against Greene County, Morgan's pitchers recorded six strikeouts in the three-inning game, shortened because of the run rule. Titshaw employed three pitchers in the short game. Kinnett recorded two strikeouts in the first; Ansley Dean had two strikeouts in the second and Caroline Thomas had two strikeouts in the third.

Morgan took a 9-0 lead in the first, added five more runs in the second and another two runs in the third.

Titshaw was happy to get the pitching work. "I was proud of all three of them for coming out and pitching so well. All of them looked really good ad that gives us some confidence… moving forward."
Offensively Morgan had a huge game, with Sadie Worth and Ellis recording triples. Leah Malcom, Cailee Anderson, Sarah Couch and Lilly Mitchell all recorded singles. Elizabeth Couch had a double.
"Every single player was able to contribute offensively in this game. It was a total team win."

Morgan had Monticello scheduled for Tuesday at home and an away game against Putnam County on Friday.
