Columnist: Getting down to business • Fred Johnson

Mitt Romney’s VP choice of Paul Ryan shows that Romney is ready to get down to business. No more campaigning on personalities and leadership ability; from here on it will be about getting America back to work and regaining its leadership role in the world. Romney and Ryan are calling themselves “the comeback team.”
Think of the contrast between the two presidential candidates now. One making personal attacks, and the other presenting a vision for America. An America going back to the principals of limited government, living within its means with thriving businesses putting people back to work. Contrasting visions of an America of income redistribution versus an America of equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.
Canadian writer and columnist Mark Steyn has a great way with words and he says the “2012 Election is the last exit ramp before the death spiral.”
Now we do have a choice. A chance to take that last exit ramp and make a clean break from the past four years of failed experiments such as the stimulus, green energy fiascos, Fast and Furious and head fake recoveries. A chance to install new managers to take the country in a new direction. A pair of competent leaders who believe in the free enterprise system and who have the business and legislative experience to lead our country out of its morass.
It will be exiting to see the presidential campaign become focused on the direction of the country instead of personalities. Voters are already exited as seen by the crowds of over 10,000 attending Romney-Ryan rallies in Wisconsin and North Carolina last weekend. It is also exiting to have the option of putting grownups back in a leadership position.
