Law enforcement reports for the week March 1
Madison Police Department
• On Feb. 23 an identity theft complaint was filed at a Morgan Circle location after a woman reported that she had been receiving mail from USAA Bank. The woman said she had been throwing the mail away, thinking it was “junk mail,” but after she opened one of the documents she discovered that someone established a bank account in her name with the financial institution. The woman said one statement showed a $5 credit with the bank and another statement showed a $395 credit.
• On Feb. 24 a theft of property complaint was filed at a Beal Lane location after a woman reported that she lost her purse either at Walmart or the Ingles gas station. The woman said she could not remember at which location she lost her purse. Four hours after filing the complaint, officers received a call to report that the purse and all its contents had been returned to the complainant.
• On Feb. 26 a damage to property complaint was filed at a Micha Way location after a man reported that someone attempted to steal his 1986 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The man said the night prior he backed the vehicle into a parking lot at midnight. The man said his uncle called him and reported that the vehicle was in the middle of the street. The vehicle’s steering column was damaged in the attempt.
• On Feb. 17 a burglary complaint was filed at a Micha Way location after a woman reported that someone entered her apartment and removed a $100 Samsung digital camera.
• On Feb. 22 a damage to property complaint was filed at a Commerce Street location after a man reported that someone shattered the front vent window of his 1986 Ford Bronco.
• On Feb. 22 a larceny complaint was filed at an Eatonton Road department store after a man reported that after he left his wallet at the self-checkout area, someone took the wallet. The man said when he noticed the wallet was gone, he returned to the store. Store personnel reviewed videotape of the area and observed a white male take the wallet. The wallet contained $450 cash, a driver’s license, a credit card, a Social Security card and a gun carrying permit.
• On Feb. 11 a burglary complaint was filed at a Pearl Street location after a woman reported that someone entered her residence and removed a Sony PlayStation 2 game console and her children’s clothing. The woman said the perpetrator also removed clothing from a dryer at the residence.
• On Feb. 21 a civil complaint report was filed at the Madison Police Department after a man reported that on Oct. 27 a woman entered a liquor store with a $3,250 insurance settlement check.
The man said he cashed the check but discovered later that the check had been forged. The man said he demanded payment for the check and worked out a promissory agreement with the woman. The man said the woman still owes him $2,125 and has failed to honor the agreement. The man was advised to pursue the matter in civil court.
• On Feb. 21 a larceny complaint was filed at a Pinecrest Court location after a man reported that someone removed a metal fire pit from his yard. The man valued the fire pit at $200.
• On Feb. 21 Marcellus Hawkins, 41, Madison, was arrested and charged with criminal trespass after he was observed by a Madison police officer in the parking lot of a West Washington Street liquor store. The officer reported that Hawkins had been banned from the store indefinitely in 2011.
• On Feb. 19 a criminal trespass complaint was filed at an Academy Street location after someone wrote an expletive with human feces on the wall behind a toilet.

• On Feb. 25 a dog bite complaint was filed at a Sandy Creek Road location after a woman reported that her dog, a 2-year-old Chow, bit her 6-year-old granddaughter on the left earlobe.
The woman said the dog had not previously shown aggressive tendencies toward children. The woman also said that the dog had not ever had a rabies shot because he had been an indoor dog.
• On Feb. 24 a criminal damage to property complaint was filed at a Reids Ferry Road location after a woman reported that a man known to her busted the window of her Jeep because she refused to give him money. The woman said the man left the residence on foot.
• On Feb. 24 a damage to property complaint was filed at a Parks Mill Road, Buckhead, location after a woman reported that someone ripped a segment of plastic side molding off her vehicle.
• On Feb. 23 a theft by taking complaint was filed at a Cedar Grove Road, Buckhead, location after a woman reported that someone took a 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo from her property. The woman said she last observed the vehicle in January. The vehicle was not operational, she said. The woman also said she had been having disagreements with a neighbor recently who happened to own a towing company.
• On Feb. 22 a theft by taking complaint was filed at a Turner Road location after a woman reported that someone removed the headlights of her 2000 Ford Taurus. The woman said a man known to her who “is always looking to steal something” has a similar car with a broken headlight.
• On Feb. 22 an animal complaint was filed at an Atlanta Highway, Rutledge, location after a woman reported that two black dogs came onto her property and rolled a rabbit cage around the backyard in an attempt to get a small white rabbit housed in the cage.
• On Feb. 20 a criminal trespass complaint was filed at a Greensboro Road location after a woman reported that when she pulled into her driveway, she observed a man in the bushes with a flashlight. The woman said the man appeared to be a white male in his 40s. A search of the area by deputies did not produce a suspect.
