The Rutledge City Council heard from concerned citizens about the parking situation in the alley adjacent to Martha Lane at their Thursday, Nov. 19 meeting.
Council members discussed several possible temporary solutions to the situation, including stationing city employees in the alley during city events and placing signs during events like Christmas in the Country to deter visitors from parking in the tow zones.
Council members then looked at proposed plans for the town's new gazebo and voted to solicit bids for the project, which is part of the proposed renewal of Rutledge's town park, and gave Mayor Spencer Knight the go-ahead to put $3,200 into repairs and replacements for the town's well.
The council is also asking residents to rein in their dogs, which have been the source of complaints around downtown.
"If you care about your dog, you won't let them run free," said council member Brenda Thompson.
The city plans to have a meeting in coming weeks to educated citizens on pet control and reporting stray animals.
They asked citizens to contact county animal control to handle stray pets.
