Plans to pave the parking lot behind Rutledge City Hall are underway, as city council members there engage engineers to finalize the specifics of the project.
"We have no timeline at this point," said Mayor Spencer Knight, but has said that as soon as the engineering work is done, they will be bidding the project out for either asphalt or gravel paving. The council also discussed plans for its new skate park at their Monday, September 22 meeting. The city is currently seeking a company to build the proposed park, and American Ramp Company, a Missouri-based leader in the skate-park industry, will be stopping by the city sometime in October to pitch for the project and give demonstrations of the products and skate prowess.
The council has also heard from several unnamed Social Circle residents interested in giving to the project. "Some Social Circle residents are interested in partnering with us on the skate park," said Knight, though the partnership is still in early stages and he could not offer specifics. The skate park will be a feature of Rutledge's proposed new city park, which will also incorporate a basketball, tennis and softball facilities as well as a walking trail and the current picnic shelter.
