Nine graduates of Madison High School will get together in July to celebrate their 70th reunion.
Eunice Stewart Smith of Albany said they graduated during the war.
“Our big class trip was to Rock Eagle,” she said.
Louise Morris Washburn of Hendersonville, N.C. said because of the war they couldn’t go away.
“We got on Robert Wood’s old farm truck without sides,” she said, mentioning a fellow classmate. “We had a good time. … It was a good trip, though.”
Smith explained that they met for the first time following graduation in 1993 for their 50th reunion. They met at the Episcopal Church in Madison that year.
They met again in 1998 at the Madison ChopHouse Grille and after that met yearly in the same location.
Smith, her brother-in-law Taylor Ray, and classmate Allen Fleming of Dahlonega organize the event.
“We just get together and visit,” she said.
Classmates, in addition to Smith, Washburn, and Fleming, include: Faye Reynolds of Eatonton, Mary Ruth Harwell Wright and Eula Mae Hanes Adams, both of Flowery Branch, Marilyn Harris Hays of Covington, Dorothy Newsome Randolph of Locust Grove, and George Hanes of Madison.
